Gracy is from a poor community in Bangalore, India. Her life revolved around daily hardships as she struggled to care for her two children and her husband, who is paralyzed. Lacking an education, Gracy struggled to make ends meet, leaving her family trapped in poverty.
Then Gracy heard about a job skills training program offered by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyon and funded by Sisters Rising Worldwide. She eagerly joined the program, and after only one month, Gracy learned essential skills including bag stitching. With the support of staff and her peers, she grew more confident in herself.
Upon completing the program, Gracy found a job making bags for local schools. She was filled with immense pride. With her earnings, she could finally provide for her family’s basic needs, and pay for her childrens’ education, changing the course of their future for the better.
Gracy’s transformation went beyond financial independence. She became a role model in her community, and encouraged other local women to pursue skill-based training. Once shy and reserved, Gracy now carries herself with dignity. She now dreams of becoming a salaried staff member where she works, so she can earn even more money for her family.
Gracy’s story is a testament to the power of skill-based training, and how it can transform lives and build resilient communities. “Thanks to the training and support I received from the Sisters and SRW,” she said, “I can provide for my family, and I have a new sense of independence and pride. I will always be grateful to them for helping me when I needed it most.”
