Summary of the Situation
St. Paul’s Dispensary is located on Mumias, Busia Road. The Catholic Church of Kakamega Diocese started 1982 as a faith-based organization to help the poor. It was run by staff from Matungu’s sub-county hospital. As the Sub-County was lacking Nurses, it closed this Dispensary. In 2009, the Sub-County hospital opened a dispensary again, and it was functioning well. However, after a few months, they closed the Dispensary again due to a lack of Nurses. In 2015, the Bishop of Kakamega invited the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy to take over the Dispensary. It was difficult to begin from scratch. We re-registered the Dispensary in 2016, renovated the flooring, put up grills around for safety, and bought some equipment, furniture, etc., with the headquarters’ help. Though we have met the immediate need, we need to do further renovation to improve the situation and develop. According to the present situation, we can only help our patients with the minimum amount of help. Due to economic problems, we cannot appoint staff or set up the laboratory.

The Sisters’s Response
We need a doctor and Lab to help the people so that the poor may benefit from our service. The common diseases we encounter around the area are Malaria, Typhoid, Pneumonia, Anemia, worm infestation, Diarrhea, Dysentery, Upper respiratory tract infection, Urinary tract infection, Hypertension, Diabetes, Asthma, Arthritis, and Eye and Ear infection.
Systemic Impact
Better diagnostics and treatments would be very helpful. Therefore, we request that you help us build a lab and improve the facilities for the poor and marginalized people of Mumias.
