Bringing Healing Closer in Cameroon: New X-ray Machine is Saving Lives

Sr. Cristina Antolin is delighted to announce the arrival of a new X-ray machine at the San Martín de Porres Dominican Hospital Center in Cameroon. Made possible by SRW donors, the new X-ray machine will serve a community of 6500 people in need.

In Cameroon, like many African countries, public hospitals require patients to pay the full cost of services. This requirement makes regular and emergency medical care inaccessible to the poorest and most vulnerable. In response, several congregations of Dominican Sisters established the nonprofit San Martín de Porres Dominican Hospital Center in 2008. There, the Sisters deliver reduced-cost medical services to all patients in need and ensure no one goes without care.

Now, with the new X-ray machine, local patients can receive proper diagnoses and treatment without traveling long distances for up-to-date equipment. Previously, many patients forwent treatments because they could not afford them or were too ill to make the journey for care.

Sr. Cristina thanks SRW and all who donated to bring the gift of healing to her patients in Cameroon. She shares, “We are all very happy because this machine will save many lives,” and she promises to share future updates with SRW.
