CRISIS ALERT: ASSAM, INDIA

Assam has been experiencing its second wave of severe flooding since June 20th, following the initial deluge in late May. Continuous heavy rains have exacerbated the situation, leading to widespread devastation in the Cachar districts, particularly in villages near the Bangladesh border. With floodwaters reaching up to 10 feet, severe waterlogging, and slow drainage due to the Barak River’s overflow have created significant challenges for the affected communities.

Despite these hardships, the people’s resilience shines through as they begin to rebuild their lives. Thousands have been displaced, their homes submerged, and their livelihoods destroyed, but the determination to recover is unwavering. Marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Castes, who were already vulnerable, are now in urgent need of support.

These communities, living in mud and thatched houses, are facing severe food and water shortages with limited access to government aid. However, with collective effort and immediate assistance, we can help these resilient people overcome the challenges and restore their lives.
