Crisis Alert: Uganda – Emergency Support for Orphans and Militant Attack Survivors

When rebels attacked Lhubiriha Secondary School near the Congo border, at least 41 people were brutally murdered, including 38 students who were burned beyond recognition, shot, or hacked to death. Six students were abducted, their fate unknown.

Amidst this horrific tragedy, Sr. Margaret Birra and the Sisters at Daughters of Saint Theresa of the Child of Jesus in Kasese, Uganda answered the call to help. They opened their doors to the surviving students, offering them shelter and care. This is in addition to the 501 students and orphans they were already struggling to support, and it has placed a tremendous strain on their already limited resources.

Funds Needed: $16,000 (USD)

We are seeking to raise $16,000 to purchase food and mosquito nets – a desperate need, as malaria has already claimed the lives of infants at the orphanage – for all 759 children now in the Sisters’ care. Without these essentials, they are at risk of starvation and disease.

Your support can bring hope, safety, and the essential resources these children need to survive.
