CRISIS ALERT: Uganda – Namakwa Water Emergency

Crisis Summary:

Namakwa Primary School and its surrounding community (total population: ~2,500, including 1,200 school children) in Eastern Uganda are in a critical water crisis due to prolonged drought, aging infrastructure, and climate change. The only available water is from contaminated streams shared with animals, putting children and families at risk of typhoid, cholera, and other waterborne diseases.

Urgent Funding Needed: $17,354

Funding will be used to install 2 boreholes—one at the school, one for the broader community and Sisters’ residence—to provide safe, sustainable water access.

Implementation Plan:

  • Site assessment by hydrologist
  • Drilling & construction (70–100m depth)
  • Installation of hand or solar-powered pumps
  • Community training on pump use and upkeep
  • Monitoring & evaluation framework for long-term tracking

Project Objectives & Impact:

  • Provide clean, reliable water for 2,500+ people.
  • Reduce waterborne illness and improve health, hygiene, and safety for students, teachers, and families.
  • Increase school attendance, especially for girls and children with disabilities.
  • Reduced burden on women and girls responsible for collecting water.
  • Strengthen capacity for the Sisters’ ministries and school programs.
  • Increased preparedness for future droughts and other emergencies.
  • Empower community with training and long-term maintenance plans.

Your generous gift will help Sisters bring clean water to thousands of people in desperate need. Together, we can meet this moment of crisis with compassion and action.
