Crisis Impact Update: Support for Orphans and Militant Attack Survivors in Uganda

When rebels attacked Lhubiriha Secondary School near the Congo border, 41 people, including 38 students, were brutally murdered. Amidst the tragedy, Sr. Margaret Birra and the Sisters at Daughters of Saint Theresa of the Child of Jesus answered the call to help. They opened their doors to the surviving students, offering them shelter and care alongside the hundreds of students and orphans they already struggled to support. Ongoing political instability and disease placed added strain on the Sisters’ limited resources. Malaria claimed the lives of some infants in their care, and the children often had to go an entire day without food. They were in dire need of supplies.

With help from our heroic donors, SRW raised $16,000 for food and enough mosquito nets for all 759 children at the school. Sr. Margaret reports:

“We are overjoyed to report that this has had a significant impact on their health. The incidence of malaria which was a major concern has drastically reduced. The children are now sleeping safer and healthier, and we are seeing a marked improvement in their overall well being. This is a direct result of your kindness and we cannot thank you enough for helping us protect these vulnerable children from this preventable disease.”

While challenges and unrest in Uganda remain, the Sisters will continue their tireless work of uplifting those in need.

To our donors – thank you!
Your support has transformed lives, offering vulnerable children a healthier future, and reminding them that they are not forgotten.
