Five Ways You Can Help Fight Human Trafficking

Did you Know?

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month!

Today, there are 50 million people trapped in modern slavery worldwide, including 12 million children. Human trafficking occurs in every zip code, and victims are often coerced into providing labor or sexual services by people they know and trust. Prevention, awareness and protection are key to keeping this crime from claiming more victims. Want to join the fight to end this injustice?

Here are five things you can do to help:

  • Learn the indicators of human trafficking and consider taking an online training course. Human trafficking awareness training is available for individuals, businesses, first responders, law enforcement, educators, and others. If you live in the United States, visit the National Human Trafficking Hotline website to learn how to report a potential trafficking situation.
  • Volunteer and support anti-trafficking efforts in your community. Click here to learn where you can volunteer in your area.
  • Be a conscientious consumer. Find out more about who may have harvested your food or made your clothes at ResponsibleSourcingTool.org
  • Use your social media platforms to raise awareness about human trafficking. Share information about trafficking and use hashtags like: #endtrafficking or #freedomfirst.
  • Support the Sisters working on the ground to combat human trafficking all over the world by making a donation to Sisters Rising Worldwide today. 90% of your contribution goes directly to empowering Sister-led projects that address the root causes of social injustice, including human trafficking.
