Lynn and Mike Zak – Consistent Giving, Consistent Impact

Sisters Rising Worldwide monthly donors Lynn Zak and her husband, Mike, know the power of giving consistently. When COO Kelly Mallon Young first introduced them to Sisters Rising Worldwide, Lynn was immediately inspired. “Kelly knew Mike from an exercise boot camp and invited us to attend a fundraiser she held at her house for Sisters Rising Worldwide. When I heard Sister Irene and Kelly share what they were doing, I knew on the spot that I wanted to help,” Lynn recalls.

Connecting Through Stories

Having supported grassroots charities before, both as a board member and as a monthly donor to missionaries, she saw something special in SRW. “These Sisters are like Mother Teresa’s everywhere around the world,” Lynn remarks. “I have had so much fun following the growth of Sisters Rising Worldwide since Kelly first introduced us to it. I enjoy reading the stories of the Sisters’ work and sharing them with others because it is so inspiring.”

For Lynn, the mission of SRW resonates deeply. “They’re helping people in the far corners of the world who are experiencing terrible challenges and might otherwise never be reached—people who need food, safety, and opportunity,” she explains. One of the first stories she heard was about the Sisters in India who needed a van to help young girls escape human trafficking and get to school. “It stuck with me,” she says. “Their impact is real, and I love seeing the difference. It is also great to have my evangelical faith and values align with the values of Sisters Rising Worldwide.”

A Heart for Giving

Her commitment to monthly giving comes from both a practical and personal place. “It helps the organization have consistency,” Lynn notes. “And honestly? Because Kelly asked!” But beyond that, giving regularly is second nature to her. Growing up in Alaska, she remembers losing her home in the massive earthquake of the 1960s. Watching her community come together left a lasting impression. “All through life, even in college, I’ve always given or helped someone,” she says. “It’s part of the fabric of my life.”

That generosity extends across many causes, from supporting the Dave Thomas Adoption Foundation to helping children with disabilities. But SRW holds a unique place in her heart. “I love that the Sisters can now be networked and communicate with each other through the PeaceRoom,” she says. “Sisters Rising Worldwide has launched in a bigger way than I ever imagined.”

When they are not busy running their own business, Lynn and Mike love traveling and spending time with their ten grandchildren. “When you realize they are the future, you start thinking about children in other little pockets of the world and what their future could be,” she says. “That’s why we look for the good and give where we can.”
