#157 – Healthcare for Disabled Children phase two

Summary of the Situation

Poverty and health illiteracy affect many in Palestine. Children with disabilities are often abandoned due to the inability of their parents to care for them. Many of these children require total care, including feeding, clothing, changing, constant supervision, and frequent medical treatments. These disabilities also come with many health problems that need to be treated with daily medication. A poor immune system in these children causes frequent infections that can hospitalize them. Some children suffer from psychiatric disorders that can put themselves or others in danger. The families do not have the time or financial resources to care for these children. Hogar Ninos Dios is a home that welcomes children with all disabilities and takes on the financial and time burden of caring for them.

How will the funds be used?

These funds would cover six months of medical treatment. This includes but is not limited to daily medication, doctor visits, and infection treatment. Psychiatric medication does not only help the child taking it function but also helps keep the other children safe in the home. The anticonvulsants and muscle relaxers help our children with cerebral palsy remain free of pain and increase their abilities to participate in psychomotor therapies. Without this medicine, basic activities like eating or sitting in a chair would be painful for some and impossible for others. Their weakened immune systems leave them susceptible to infectious diseases, so doctor visits are standard.

The Sisters’s Response

We want to give Christ’s love to those the world rejects. Our children are often abandoned and deserve to have a family. We created a home to provide a family that shares the love of Christ with all who enter our doors.

Systemic Impact

Providing a home for disabled people whose families have been abandoned will give them a safe place to live and get the proper care they need to live a life of dignity.
