$50,000 Goal
Summary of the Situation
Immaculate Heart Maternity and Dispensary in Okwu, Ikeduru LGA, Imo State, Nigeria—the only maternity home in the district—was built in 1960 and is now in a dilapidated state. Neglect, poor infrastructure, and lack of government support left the facility partially closed and overgrown.
Since COVID-19, many families have returned to rural areas, creating an urgent need for maternal and child healthcare. Despite its broken condition, women continue to seek care there because no other facility exists. With no government hospital, poor roads, and limited electricity, this center is the only hope for safe births and basic treatment.
This project seeks to renovate and equip the maternity so it can once again serve the rural population with dignity and life-saving care.
Sisters Response to the root cause of the injustice
The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, have served this community faithfully for six decades. Renovating and re-equipping the maternity will bring essential healthcare closer to families, prevent diseases, and provide life-saving maternal care.
