Join Sisters Rising Worldwide for our next Peace Talks, featuring two Sisters whose lives and ministries demonstrate the transformative power of education: Sr. Mūmbi Kīgūtha, CPPS, and Sr. Swapna, Sister of St. Joseph of Lyon.

What happens when a child has no school to attend? When the teacher standing in front of a classroom has never had the opportunity to receive professional training? Or when poverty means a family must choose between sending a child to school and sending them to work?

Around the world, Catholic Sisters are removing barriers to education—training teachers, helping children return to school, and creating opportunities for people too often excluded from learning. With the support of the SRW community, Sisters are putting these solutions into action. This Peace Talks is an opportunity to see how your support is making a difference.

Strengthening Education in South Sudan

In South Sudan, a critical shortage of professionally trained teachers limits educational opportunities for children. In Wau, an innovative in-service training program allows primary school teachers to continue teaching while earning accredited qualifications—strengthening the quality of education available to children across the region.

Sr. Mūmbi Kīgūtha, CPPS, a Sister of the Precious Blood born and raised in Kenya, serves as President of Friends in Solidarity, supporting development efforts in South Sudan. She has worked with vulnerable populations around the world, including assignments with U.N. agencies, and is a reconciliation consultant, speaker, writer, and facilitator.

Bringing Children Back to School in India

In rural tea plantation communities in Assam, India, poverty and other barriers keep many children out of school and increase their vulnerability to child labor, early marriage, trafficking, and exploitation. Through Bridge Schools and community-based programs, Sisters help children return to formal education while working with families and villages to address the barriers keeping them out.

Sr. Swapna, Sister of St. Joseph of Lyon, began her ministry in special education and later earned a master's degree in Social Work. Her ministry has included counseling young people and working with underprivileged and tribal children in India's tea plantation communities through educational support, school reintegration, leadership development, and livelihood programs.

Join us to hear directly from Sr. Mūmbi and Sr. Swapna about the realities facing the communities they serve, the Sister-led solutions creating new opportunities, and what becomes possible when education reaches those who have too often been left behind.
