Transforming Vulnerable Youth in Apopa

In Apopa, El Salvador, crippling poverty, social exclusion and a lack of safe recreational opportunity stifles the mental, physical, and social development of children, leading many to join violent criminal gangs. In response, the Sisters of the Guardian Angel created the Visible Angels Project. With funding from an SRW grant, the program offers personalized workshops for children that address their emotional, mental and spiritual growth and promotes youth leadership, gender equity and a culture of peace.

Teacher Carlos Heriberto Cordero Herrera, from the Padre José María Vilaseca Catholic Educational Complex, describes the changes he has seen in the students at his school, thanks to the Visible Angels Project:

“My name is Carlos Heriberto Cordero Herrera, and I am a high school teacher at the Padre José María Vilaseca Catholic Educational Complex. In recent days, we have had the support of the Sisters of the Guardian Angel, who have been conducting workshops and training sessions for the students. This support has generated very positive changes within the institution. We have observed that the students show greater interest in their studies and participate more openly in discussions, expressing their family and academic difficulties.
Thanks to these workshops, the students are developing a more responsible perspective on their lives, their behavior, and their educational process. We have also noticed improvements in their attitude, their interpersonal skills, and how they face the challenges of their age.
As an institution, we are deeply grateful to those who make it possible for the sisters to continue this work, whether through financial support or any other kind of assistance. This project is making a real difference in the lives of our young people.”

Thank you to our donors for enabling the incredible transformation of the children of Apopa!
